Ever since the massive success of Sanju in 2018, Bollywood fans have been waiting for director Rajkumar Hirani and superstar Ranbir Kapoor to create magic together again. There was a lot of buzz about them teaming up for a new biopic based on an athlete’s life. However, the latest news confirms that this much-awaited project has been pushed back.
According to industry sources, the film that was in discussion has now been moved to 2027, meaning the wait for the hit duo’s return is going to be much longer.
The Wait Gets Longer For Hirani-Kapoor Film
Sources close to the project have revealed that both Hirani and Ranbir were very excited about the athlete biopic and had been working on the idea throughout the year. However, the script requires more work to meet the high expectations set by Sanju. A trade source explained, “Hirani decided to park it. Ranbir’s calendar is packed, so it made sense to regroup later. Everyone wants it to be like Sanju, so they’re okay to wait.”
Given Ranbir’s packed schedule and the need to perfect the screenplay, the makers have decided not to rush the film. Pushing the film to 2027 allows both the director and the actor to give it their full attention when the time is right.
Hirani’s Focus Shifts To Aamir Khan
With the Ranbir Kapoor film on the back burner for now, Rajkumar Hirani has shifted his focus to another major project. He is now set to direct a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, with Aamir Khan in the lead role. This exciting project is expected to start shooting in January 2026.
An insider shared that Aamir has already been preparing for this grand role for months. “He’s growing out his look and will dive straight into workshops in December. This is the first time he’s playing a real-life pioneer of cinema, and Hirani wants to give it the grandeur it deserves,” the source revealed.
What’s Next For Ranbir Kapoor?
Ranbir Kapoor has a very busy schedule ahead of him. He is currently committed to finishing Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic Love and War. After that, he will be working on the second instalment of Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus, Ramayana.
Only after completing these massive projects will he decide on his next move. According to reports, he will likely choose between two highly anticipated sequels, Dhoom 4 and Animal Park, both of which are in the advanced stages of planning.
