Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, also a BJP leader, is embroiled in a civic dispute. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a show cause notice to the actor regarding a purported unauthorised ground-floor structure in Malad (West) of Mumbai, in Erangle village just off Madh Island. The actor, however, insists he has no illegal property and is replying to the show cause notice.
What The BMC Notice Said: 7 Days To Reply Or Face Demolition
According to the BMC notice served on Mithun Chakraborty under the proceedings of Section 351(1A) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act, he allegedly created a ground floor unit inside a plot in Erangle village, Malad, without permission from municipal authorities.
The BMC gave him seven days from 10th May to provide an authentic explanation for the construction, which, if not accepted, could face demolition, as well as legal proceedings under Section 475A for punishment, fines and jail time.
As per the BMC officials, the recent inspection showed various unauthorised removals, including:
- Two one-plus-mezzanine-storey
- One ground floor concrete
- Three temporary structures made of wood, glass, bricks and AC sheets.
Mithun Chakraborty Reacts: “No Illegal Structure”
In an interview, Mithun Chakraborty denied any misconduct:
“I don’t have any illegal structures. We are sending our responses to the many Notices we have received.”
The actor and his team will lodge a response with the relevant authorities by the deadline that is required, after which BMC will decide whether the structure is allowed to remain or is going to be demolished.
Wider Civic Crackdown in Area
Mithun was one subject in a far larger demolition campaign from BMC, as the civic body has issued 101 notices for illegal structures to owners in Madh and surrounding areas. Among them are several luxury bungalows, identified with the aid of forged documents. BMC have now made a statement indicating that they will work towards clearance of all illegal structures in the area by the end of May 2025.
BoxOfficeWorldwide Verdict
From blockbuster cinema to civic oversight, Mithun Chakraborty’s Malad property is officially part of BMC’s tightening grip on illegal property ownership in Mumbai’s significant coastal zones. Now that the actor is bound with seven days to come up with compliance, it will be interesting to see how this all unfolds and whether it crosses a legal quagmire or morphs into a smooth exit — this story will make headlines soon, so all eyes are on Mithun’s next move.
