Showbiz is always full of gossips and behind the scene scandals. Such scoops and scandals used to come out easily till 90’s but since the advent of PR and digital medium, things are more guarded than ever. Today’s blind item is about a big action film that is slated to release in cinemas in the next couple of months. The film is directed by a marquee filmmaker who has delivered some blockbuster hits in the past and produced by one of relatively big production houses. The film is expected to be a visual spectacle with high-octane stunts and thrilling sequences.

Multiplex deal
It’s being said that a leading multiplex chain in India has bought the domestic theatrical rights of the film for a whopping 70 crores. Actually they bought distribution rights of last two films of same production house for 70 Crores but both films failed miserably. Recovery was hardly 25 crore so now multiplex chain has paid 25 crore more to bag this biggie thinking this will change the fortune in a big way.
This means that the film will have to do a nett business of at least 150-160 crores at the domestic box office to break even. This is a huge risk given not so great response on released film assets and changing market dynamics.
OTT Deal
We have also heard that the film may not release on the OTT platform that had a deal with the production house behind the film. The reason is that the production house had released two of their films on the same platform earlier and they did not perform well. The OTT platform was not happy with the response and the revenue generated by the films and decided to cancel the deal or make it null and void. The production house is now looking for other platforms to release the film on the digital medium, which also puts a lot of pressure on film to do well at box office.
We still wish that film turns out to be blockbuster as this year has weaker line up than last year and there are no guaranteed biggies in store. Box office ecosystem needs a big hit and we hope this will be the one. Stay tuned for more blind items from the world of showbiz.
