CBFC Censors A Massive 8 Minutes Of Sydney Sweeney’s Frontal Nudity Scenes In The Housemaid

Indian audiences will see a significantly altered version of the film The Housemaid as it makes its debut in India at the start of 2026. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has mandated substantial edits, removing over eight minutes of frontal nudity from the original film, which stars Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. The film was initially released in Western markets on December 19, where it received attention for its suspenseful narrative and lead performances.

Unprecedented Cut For Housemaid

As per reports by Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC awarded The Housemaid an ‘A’ certificate on December 4, following a review by its Examining Committee. The board required several modifications, notably the muting of explicit language and the removal of specific nudity. The words ‘b***h’, ‘c**t’ and ‘motherf****r’ were muted, as per the recommendations of the Examining Committee. Other than this, the studio partner was asked to delete ‘nudity visuals of women’s breastswhenever it occurs’. .

Intimate scenes involving Sydney Sweeney, including a long lovemaking sequence, have been completely removed for Indian viewers. Another similar sequence and a scene showing Amanda Seyfried using a breast pump were also eliminated. However, a brief shot featuring the buttocks of the male lead, Brandon Sklenar, remains in the final version approved for Indian cinemas.

The original runtime of The Housemaid was 131 minutes and 46 seconds, but the Indian release has been reduced to 125 minutes and 46 seconds after these edits and the addition of anti-smoking advertisements.

The film’s narrative follows a woman on parole who secures employment as a housemaid in the home of a wealthy family. As she settles into her new position, she gradually discovers that her safety may be at risk, adding a suspenseful layer to the plot.

Despite the extensive edits, the film’s essence and genre remain largely intact. “according to those who saw the censored version” the story and its erotic nature are preserved to a significant extent, even after the removal of the explicit content.

The Housemaid’s modifications align with previous actions by the CBFC, which often mandates cuts to scenes featuring nudity or explicit language for Indian theatrical releases. These interventions reflect ongoing regulatory standards regarding content deemed sensitive or inappropriate for national audiences.

Indian cinegoers who anticipate watching the film can expect a version that differs from the international release, primarily due to the absence of several intimate scenes.
