Get ready for an interesting update about the censor certification of Gustaakh Ishq. The Central Board of Film Certification has passed the romantic drama with a U/A 13+ certificate, but only after asking for some dialogue modifications. This is a clean family entertainer that was released today, on November 28, and the changes made by the CBFC are quite interesting to note.
The Examining Committee asked the makers to make a few specific changes to the language used in the film. However, the good news is that no visual cuts were demanded, as the board found the film to be appropriate for family viewing. The CBFC received its certificate on November 11, clearing the way for its theatrical release.
What Words Were Changed
The most notable change involved replacing the word Harami with Kameena and Kameeni throughout the film. This includes both the dialogue and subtitles. Additionally, the English word rascal was replaced with scoundrel in the subtitles to maintain a more acceptable tone.
The censor board also asked for modifications to references related to bold content. The word sex was replaced with the Hindi word aiyaashi in some places and with the phrase the art of lovemaking in others. The subtitles were modified accordingly to match these changes. These modifications were made to ensure the film receives a U/A certificate that allows family audiences to watch it comfortably.
No Visual Cuts Required
The most important part is that Gustaakh Ishq did not face any visual cuts. The CBFC did not feel the need to remove or trim any scenes because the film is completely free from unnecessary content. This is a big positive for the makers, as visual cuts often impact the storytelling and flow of a film.
The fact that only dialogue changes were needed shows that director Vibhu Puri has made a film that is respectful of audience sensibilities while still telling a mature love story. This balance is not easy to achieve, and the team deserves credit for it.
Film Details And Star Cast
Gustaakh Ishq stars Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead roles. The film also features legendary actor Naseeruddin Shah and talented performer Sharib Hashmi in important roles. It is directed by Vibhu Puri, who earlier made Hawaizaada in 2015.
The film marks the first theatrical production by fashion designer and producer Manish Malhotra. This is a big moment for him as he enters the world of cinema as a producer. The runtime of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 128 minutes and 30 seconds, which means 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 30 seconds.
Successful IFFI Premiere
Before its theatrical release today, Gustaakh Ishq had its India premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India held in Goa on November 24. The screening at IFFI was reportedly very successful, with audiences responding positively to the film’s fresh take on modern romance.
At the trailer launch event held earlier this month, both Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh spoke about how the definition of love has changed in today’s digital age. Fatima mentioned that she longs for slow, passionate, and deep love, while Vijay talked about how people now immediately tag everything instead of understanding and accepting relationships.
