CBFC Orders 21 Changes In Ranveer Singh Starrer Dhurandhar The Revenge, Trims Violent Visuals By 34 Seconds And Mutes Abuses

Just a day before its release, Dhurandhar The Revenge has cleared a crucial last-mile hurdle, and not without a detailed round of changes. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has awarded the film an ‘A’ certificate, but the Examining Committee (EC) instructed the makers to carry out a string of modifications across language, visuals, and on-screen text.

The order, dated March 17, 2026, outlines 21 cuts and modifications, with the most significant intervention aimed at toning down specific violent visuals and censoring abusive words.

What The CBFC Asked The Makers To Change

As per the cut list, the EC directed the makers to mute abusive words in multiple instances, while also asking that some abuses be replaced. The document does not specify the exact cuss words, but it clearly indicates that the film had to be softened on the language front before certification. In another spot, a non-abusive word was replaced. Additionally, in two places, a word was muted while a name was changed, likely to a fictional name.

The visual cuts were focused on four violent moments. The footage showing a head being hit with a hammer was reduced by 2 seconds. A second violent scene involving a head being hit with cement blocks was shortened by 4 seconds. A 4 second visual featuring an eye being smashed was also reduced. The largest trim applied to a sequence showing beheading and kicking, which was reduced by 24 seconds. In total, violent visuals were cut by 34 seconds.

Beyond violence and language, the EC also asked for two corrections. One related to a historical event referenced only in subtitles, and the other concerned the name of a city.

The CBFC further instructed the makers to add a separate drugs disclaimer, along with an additional disclaimer that reads, “This film includes disturbing content, and viewer discretion is strongly recommended”. The chapter names were mentioned in Hindi as well. The makers also submitted an Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) certificate for scenes involving animals, and provided an official permission letter for references to the Prime Minister and the use of news footage in the film.

After these changes, the CBFC certified the film with 94 seconds, or 1 minute and 34 seconds, deleted. The final certified length is listed as 229.06 minutes, which translates to 3 hours, 49 minutes, and 6 seconds. The first Dhurandhar part ran 214.01 minutes, making the sequel about 15 minutes longer.

Dhurandhar The Revenge Set For Blockbuster Opening

Dhurandhar 2 has sold nearly 1.5 million tickets in advance across India, with almost half of those from paid preview screenings set for Wednesday. The advance booking figures continue to rise. The film has already secured around 5.30 lac tickets for paid previews. Day 1 advance sales have contributed an additional 2.30 lac tickets. On a global scale, the Ranveer Singh film has surpassed $5 million in North American pre-sales, pushing total global advance bookings beyond Rs 125 crore.
