Vikrant Massey Joins Ajay Devgn’s Chauhaan, Set To Play A Layered Grey Character

Ajay Devgn’s Chauhaan has just landed the kind of casting twist that changes the temperature of a film overnight. Vikrant Massey is now part of the much-talked-about project, stepping in opposite Devgn in a role designed with darker edges and serious dramatic bite. For a film already carrying strong curiosity after its title reveal, this is the first major addition that makes the face-off feel far more charged.

Industry chatter around the film has only sharpened with this pairing. A source close to the development said, “Vikrant Massey will be seen like never before in this action thriller inspired by true events. He plays a layered grey character, and his tashan with Ajay Devgn will be among the major highlights of Chauhaan.” The same source added, “Ajay and Vikrant are like watching two powerhouses from different generations in the same film. The audiences are in for a treat.”

Chauhaan Locks In Its Big Screen Timeline

The casting update arrives soon after Chauhaan was officially announced as an Ajay Devgn-led action entertainer backed by Jio Studios and Aanand L Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions. Directed by Neeraj Yadav and produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aanand L Rai, and Himanshu Sharma, the film is lined up for a theatrical release on October 1, 2027, aiming for the Gandhi Jayanti holiday corridor.

The current plan places the film on floors in the last quarter of 2026, with pre-production already moving at full pace. That timeline gives the makers room to build scale, but the more immediate takeaway is that the team is clearly investing in performance-led conflict as much as spectacle. Bringing Vikrant Massey into the mix suggests Chauhaan wants tension that comes from character, not just action design.

Why This Casting Fits Vikrant Massey’s Current Run

That is exactly why this move feels well-timed in Vikrant Massey’s career. Over the last few years, he has steadily widened his screen identity, moving from intimate, emotionally precise performances to projects with sharper mainstream visibility. 12th Fail in 2023 remains the defining high point of that stretch, while Blackout, which premiered on JioCinema on June 7, 2024, showed him leaning into a more commercial, tonally playful space.

He followed that with Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, released in theatres on July 11, 2025, opposite Shanaya Kapoor. In 2026, he also featured in O’ Romeo in a special appearance. Seen together, those choices reflect an actor who has not stayed boxed into one image for too long. A morally shaded role opposite Ajay Devgn in Chauhaan feels like the next logical step in that progression, especially in a film that appears to be building its appeal around a clash of contrasting screen presences.
