Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Stays Rock Solid With Rs 166 Crore In India, Imax Contributes A Massive Rs 74.21 Crore

Even in its fourth week, The Odyssey is still commanding the kind of theatrical attention most event films struggle to sustain for long. Christopher Nolan’s latest spectacle has refused to loosen its grip on premium screens and urban audiences, turning what began as a strong launch into one of the most resilient Hollywood runs in India this year. In 24 days, the film has collected Rs. 166.89 crore from its English version alone, while its all-language total has reached Rs. 178.31 crore.

The numbers tell the story of a film that found traction early and kept building. The Odyssey opened at Rs. 16.08 crore, recorded a first weekend of Rs. 56.85 crore and closed Week 1 at Rs. 85.65 crore. It added Rs. 45.67 crore in Week 2, followed by Rs. 24.15 crore in Week 3, a phase when most big-ticket titles usually face sharper erosion.

Released in India on July 17, 2026, The Odyssey is directed by Christopher Nolan and backed by Universal Pictures. The epic fantasy action film stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron, and reimagines Homer’s classic tale of Odysseus and his perilous journey home after war.

Fourth Week Hold Keeps The Momentum Intact

The true test arrived when Spider-Man: Brand New Day entered cinemas on July 30, 2026. The immediate impact was visible, with The Odyssey dropping from Rs. 4.46 crore a day earlier to Rs. 2.79 crore on July 30. But the slide did not spiral. The film bounced back to Rs. 3.41 crore on July 31, then climbed to Rs. 5.66 crore and Rs. 5.72 crore on August 1 and August 2 respectively.

The fourth week has followed a similar pattern. The Odyssey collected Rs. 2.23 crore on Thursday, August 6, then improved to Rs. 2.54 crore on Friday, August 7. It rose further to Rs. 4.49 crore on August 8 and Rs. 4.39 crore on August 9, taking its fourth weekend total to Rs. 11.42 crore. The key takeaway is that the Spider-Man wave dented the film briefly, but did not knock it off course.

Imax Has Turned The Odyssey Into A Premium Format Giant

The biggest force behind this run is clearly IMAX. As the source material itself notes, “the IMAX format has played a major role in the collections of The Odyssey.” That has translated into a massive Rs. 74.21 crore from IMAX alone so far, including Rs. 73.77 crore from the English version and Rs. 44 lakh from the Hindi version. IMAX now accounts for about 41.62 percent of the film’s total all-language collections.

The premium format pull became even more pronounced as the run progressed. In Week 3, IMAX contributed Rs. 16.10 crore out of the film’s Rs. 25.30 crore total across languages. In the fourth weekend, IMAX brought in Rs. 7.68 crore out of Rs. 11.44 crore, pushing its share to 67.14 percent. When all premium formats are included, they delivered 71.15 percent of the film’s fourth weekend business, a remarkable sign of how strongly audiences are choosing the large-screen experience for Nolan’s film.
