After months of chatter around what kind of “spiritual sequel” Cocktail 2 will be, Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that the film is set to revolve around a romance between Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon, with Shahid Kapoor positioned as the third angle who complicates the equation.
If that sounds like a sharp update to the 2012 film’s famously messy triangle, that is exactly the point. The makers are keeping the plot tightly under wraps, but the casting and central relationship arc alone signals a very different kind of urban rom-com swing for mainstream Hindi cinema.

Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon will play a couple in Cocktail 2, while Shahid Kapoor will play the third wheel in their relationship.
The development lands just as Cocktail 2 moves into post-production. Director Homi Adajania recently confirmed the film has wrapped shooting, posting on Instagram: “Cocktail2 shoot wrapped. I may be biased, but this one feels a tad special. Big love to my fab crew & cast for tolerating the absurdity that I am. Love you guys.” Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon are the lead cast members pictured in the wrap celebration.
The film is written by Luv Ranjan and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. An official release date has not been announced yet.

Cocktail 2 is directed by Homi Adajania, who also helmed the 2012 original. The film stars Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles, and it is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films with Luv Ranjan credited as the writer. Positioned as a romantic comedy, the makers have not officially revealed story details, beyond the film being a spiritual successor in vibe rather than a direct continuation. The original Cocktail was built around a contemporary love triangle, and the sequel also appears to be driven by relationship conflicts, with a fresh set of characters.

Rashmika Mandanna has stayed firmly in the big-ticket, pan-India lane over the last few years. Her major recent releases include Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024), Sukumar’s blockbuster starring Allu Arjun and Fahadh Faasil, followed by Hindi theatrical outings such as Chhaava (2025) opposite Vicky Kaushal and Sikandar (2025) opposite Salman Khan. On the OTT side, she led the Telugu romantic drama The Girlfriend, which began streaming on Netflix from December 5, 2025.
With Cocktail 2 now wrapped, her 2026 slate looks geared toward high-visibility mainstream Hindi cinema while she continues to balance Telugu projects.
