Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has challenged the central government to screen ‘Jawan’ at the recently inaugurated Parliament building. This call to action comes in the wake of the screening of Sunny Deol’s blockbuster sequel ‘Gadar 2’ a few days ago.
‘Jawan,’ featuring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, alongside southern stars Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara, has set the box office on fire, amassing a staggering 100 crores in just two days since its release.
Congress Leader’s Challenge To Modi Government To Screen Jawan
Taking to his official social media handle, Ramesh posed the question, “Gadar-2 was shown in the new Parliament building a few days back. Will the Modi Sarkar have the courage to screen Jawan as well?”
It’s worth noting that ‘Jawan’ includes a disclaimer during its opening credits, categorically stating that it is a work of fiction. However, the film does delve into sensitive issues like farmer suicides and portrays government hospitals in a state of disrepair.
Furthermore, the film features a pivotal monologue delivered by Shah Rukh Khan‘s character, emphasizing the importance of citizens questioning their leaders before casting their votes. The monologue goes, “Jo aapse vote maang raha hai aap unsee sawal pucho. Pucho unse ki agle 5 saal tak mere liye kya karoge (Pose questions to the leader who is seeking votes from you. Ask him what he plans to do for you in the next five years.)”
Gadar 2 Was Played For 3 Days At The New Parliament Office
Notably, Sunny Deol-starrer ‘Gadar 2’ was screened for all Lok Sabha members over a three-day period starting August 25. This marked the first time that a movie screening was arranged within the Parliament. Sunny Deol, a Lok Sabha member representing Punjab’s Gurdaspur constituency for the BJP, added a unique dimension to this cinematic event.
Directed by Atlee, ‘Jawan’ has received a thunderous response from audiences across the nation. It opened to packed theatres and achieved remarkable success not only in India but also in overseas markets. On its opening day, the action-thriller raked in an impressive Rs 65.50 crores at the domestic box office. According to Red Chillies Entertainment, the film grossed a whopping Rs 129.6 crores worldwide, setting a historic record for a Hindu film in overseas markets.
