Controversy Erupts Over Farhan Akhtar’s 120 Bahadur: Community Demands Title Change From ‘120 Bahadur’ To ‘120 Veer Ahir’

A major controversy has erupted around the upcoming war film 120 Bahadur, produced by Farhan Akhtar and directed by Rajnish Ghai. A massive mahapanchayat organized by the Yaduvanshi (Ahir) community in Gurgaon has strongly opposed the film’s title, demanding that it be changed to 120 Veer Ahir to give proper credit to the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Rezang La.

The community expressed anger after the release of the film’s teaser, claiming it sidelines the collective heroism of the Ahir troops involved in the historic 1962 battle. The protest, held near the Kherki Daula toll plaza, brought together ex-servicemen, sarpanches, and community representatives who warned of a nationwide agitation if their demands are not met.

Objections To Historical Representation

The core issue raised by the mahapanchayat is the alleged misrepresentation of historical facts for cinematic purposes. Speakers argued that the title 120 Bahadur diminishes the contribution of the 114 martyrs from the battalion. They claim the film’s focus on a single soldier overlooks the collective sacrifice of the company, which was predominantly composed of Ahir soldiers and officially recognized by the government as “Veer Ahir” for its role in the Indo-China war.

Col Mahabir Yadav (retd), speaking at the event, emphasized that the story of Rezang La’s martyrs must be told with historical accuracy, not altered for “cinematic convenience.” Another speaker, TC Rao, stated that using a generic title like 120 Bahadur distorts war history and fails to honor the specific community and soldiers whose bravery is being depicted.

Pre-Screening Demand And Boycott Threat

The community has put forward clear demands to the filmmakers. Firstly, they insist that 120 Bahadur must be screened for the families of the martyrs and representatives of the Yaduvanshi community before its scheduled theatrical release on November 21, 2025. This screening would allow the community to verify the film’s content and historical accuracy.

Protesters have issued a strong warning that if these demands are ignored and the title is not changed, they will launch a nationwide agitation. This agitation would include a call to boycott the film across the country, potentially impacting its theatrical run. Several prominent functionaries from Gurgaon and nearby districts have pledged their support to this movement.
