David Dhawan Film Festival Brings Partner, Main Tera Hero And More Back To Pvr Inox From May 8

The whistles, the chaos, the one liners and the full blown family entertainer energy of a David Dhawan comedy are set to light up cinema halls again. In a move built purely on nostalgia and repeat value, PVR INOX has announced a David Dhawan Film Festival, bringing five of the filmmaker’s popular crowd pleasers back to the big screen from May 8 for audiences ready to revisit an era of unapologetically loud Hindi comedy in theatres.

Five David Dhawan Entertainers Return To The Big Screen

The festival line-up includes Main Tera Hero, Partner, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, Raja Babu and Aankhen. In its Instagram announcement, PVR INOX wrote, “Relive the madness, the masti, and the magic! The David Dhawan Film Festival is here to bring back laughs that never get old!” The exhibition chain also confirmed that the festival begins on May 8 and that advance bookings will open soon.

The curation brings together films from different phases of Dhawan’s career and different generations of stars. Raja Babu and Aankhen revisit his successful 1990s run, while Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and Partner spotlight his 2000s commercial high point with Salman Khan. Main Tera Hero adds a more recent title to the slate, with Varun Dhawan headlining a 2014 release that connected with a younger audience.

That range is what makes the festival especially appealing. For many viewers, these films were staples of theatrical outings and television reruns. For younger fans, this is a chance to experience some of them in a cinema setting for the first time.

The Lineup Spans Decades Of Hindi Comedy Hits

David Dhawan directed all five titles in the re-release package. Aankhen featured Govinda, Chunky Pandey, Raj Babbar and Kader Khan, while Raja Babu starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in one of the filmmaker’s best remembered comic entertainers. Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya brought together Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Sushmita Sen and Sohail Khan, and Partner paired Salman with Govinda alongside Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif. Main Tera Hero, produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, starred Varun Dhawan, Ileana D’Cruz and Nargis Fakhri.

Together, the films cover the broad, high energy comic space Dhawan helped popularise in mainstream Hindi cinema, from mistaken identity capers to romantic farce. Their return also reflects the growing appetite for catalogue re-releases, with nostalgia driven programming increasingly finding an audience in theatres.

The festival also arrives at a moment when Dhawan is back in conversation for his next film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which is scheduled to release on June 5, 2026. The upcoming title stars Varun Dhawan and adds a timely contemporary link to a theatrical celebration built around the director’s enduring popularity.
