Film’s Performance Is Underwhelming At The Box Office
Despite the song’s success, Deva has faced some challenges at the box office. The film, which features Shahid as ACP Dev Ambre and Pooja Hegde as Diya Sathaye, is currently sitting in second place for Bollywood releases in January 2025.
On its opening day, Deva earned Rs 5.78 crore, trailing behind Sky Force, which earned Rs 15.30 crore. However, it outperformed several other January releases, including Azaad (Rs 1.50 crore), Fateh (Rs 2.61 crore), and Emergency (Rs 3.11 crore).
While the film did surpass Shahid’s previous release, Jersey (which earned Rs 4 crore), by a solid 44%, it didn’t quite crack the top 10 of his biggest openers. To make it to the number 10 spot, Deva would have needed Rs 6.07 crore, surpassing Rangoon (Rs 6.07 crore). Shahid’s biggest opening remains Kabir Singh (Rs 20.21 crore), followed by Padmaavat (Rs 19 crore), and Shaandaar (Rs 13.10 crore).
The film showed a modest increase on its second day, grossing Rs 6.61 crore, with a 14% growth. This indicates a slow uptake, and Deva has yet to cross Rs 20 crore net over the weekend, making its box office future uncertain.
About The Film
Directed by Malayalam filmmaker Rosshan Andrrews, Deva is a remake of the 2013 Malayalam thriller Mumbai Police. However, the Hindi version features a different climax.
Alongside Shahid and Pooja, the film also stars Pavail Gulati, Pravesh Rana, Kubbra Sait, Girish Kulkarni, and Manish Wadhwa in key roles. Produced by Zee Studios and Roy Kapur Films, Deva is currently playing in cinemas.
