Director Dharmesh Darshan, the creative mind behind the timeless romance drama Dhadkan, has revealed significant details about his plans for the much-anticipated sequel.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Darshan disclosed that while the sequel may or may not directly follow the storyline of the 2000 classic, it will offer a fresh perspective on contemporary cinema under his reinvented vision.

Yes! According to the director, Dhadkan 2 might be an “absolutely fresh take on modern cinema by a newly reinvented Dharmesh Sheela Darshan.”
On being asked about his plans for his comeback, the veteran filmmaker said, “If cinema needs me, I will always be there, that too with age still on my side and with my positivity.”
Reflecting on the casting decisions for Dhadkan, Darshan recalled facing resistance from established stars who sought leading roles in the film. Despite intense pressure, he remained steadfast in his belief in the potential of Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, and Suniel Shetty, recognizing their talent and conviction amidst challenging career phases.
Darshan’s bold decision to cast the trio in pivotal roles was met with skepticism initially, considering their perceived career setbacks at the time. However, his faith in their abilities and the vision for the film ultimately prevailed, resulting in a cinematic masterpiece that continues to resonate with audiences even years later.
“With all due respect, I don’t want to come across as patronizing. But, at that time, it was very daring to cast them as lead actors because they were all going through a certain extreme low,” he stated.
More About Dhadkan
Dhadkan narrates the tale of Dev (played by Suniel Shetty) and Anjali (portrayed by Shilpa Shetty), who hail from different financial backgrounds. Despite their financial differences, they deeply love each other. However, when Dev seeks Anjali’s father’s approval for their union, he faces rejection due to his unconventional demeanor. Consequently, Anjali’s father arranges her marriage to Ram, a man of good character and financial stability.
Heartbroken, Dev dedicates himself to achieving success and wealth over the years, hoping to win Anjali back. Yet, Anjali, now married to Ram and in love with him, refuses to revive her past romance with Dev.
