Get ready for more legal drama surrounding one of the most anticipated films of the year. Ranveer Singh‘s upcoming spy thriller Dhurandhar is facing fresh legal trouble just a week before its release. The widow of Pakistani police officer Chaudhary Aslam has threatened to take legal action if her late husband is portrayed falsely or negatively in the film directed by Aditya Dhar.
This comes after Major Mohit Sharma’s family already approached the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the film’s release. Now with another legal threat emerging from Pakistan, the makers of Dhurandhar are facing mounting pressure ahead of the December 5 release date.
Sanjay Dutt Plays Pakistani Police Officer
In Dhurandhar, veteran star Sanjay Dutt portrays Chaudhary Aslam, a Pakistani police officer who became famous as an encounter specialist. Aslam was known for his bravery against terror and criminal gangs in Karachi. The officer was assassinated by Pakistan Tehreek e Taliban’s Mohmand chapter on January 9, 2014, when they carried out a bomb attack on his car on the Lyari Expressway.
The attack killed Aslam along with two other police officers, his driver, and his guard. He was well known for leading law enforcement agencies in a crackdown on Lyari gangsters including Rehman Dakait and Uzair Baloch, as well as Taliban terrorists. Aslam had earlier survived a bomb attack at his residence in 2011 in which eight people were killed.
Widow Objects To Trailer Dialogue
Naureen Aslam, the widow of the late police officer, stated that she is waiting for the film to release in Indian theaters on December 5. Only then will she know how the filmmakers have portrayed her husband. However, she has already taken offence to a specific dialogue in the trailer.
In the trailer, Aslam is described as the child of the devil and a jinn. Naureen strongly objected to this, stating that they are Muslims and such words are disrespectful not only to Aslam but also to his mother who was a simple honest woman. This dialogue has clearly struck a nerve with the family.
Legal Action Warning
Naureen Aslam has made her intentions clear. She stated that if she sees her husband being portrayed wrongly or any propaganda against him in the film, she will definitely take all legal steps available to her. This is a serious warning that could potentially create complications for the film’s release in certain territories.
She expressed surprise that Indian filmmakers find no other subjects but to allegedly malign Pakistan. Naureen described her husband as a brave and courageous police officer whose name was feared by criminals and terrorists. She also questioned the portrayal of Rehman Dakait as a big terrorist, stating that she knows from her husband that he was an extortionist, kidnapper, and criminal.
Film Set In Karachi’s Lyari Neighborhood
Dhurandhar is a high stakes espionage thriller headlined by Ranveer Singh. The film’s official trailer, which was released earlier this month, offers a glimpse into a story set in Karachi’s notorious Lyari neighborhood. The area was once dominated by two rival criminal gangs, and the film appears to explore this dangerous world.
With legal threats now coming from both India and Pakistan, the makers of Dhurandhar are in a challenging position. The film is scheduled to release on December 5, and it remains to be seen how these legal matters will be resolved before or after the theatrical release.
