Just when Dhurandhar The Revenge was already drawing attention as one of the season’s high-profile Hindi releases, the film has entered a legal chapter that carries real commercial weight. In a significant development, the Delhi High Court has referred the copyright dispute involving the film’s song Rang De Lal (Oye Oye) to mediation, pushing the standoff between Trimurti Films and Aditya Dhar’s B62 Studios toward a negotiated resolution.
The dispute centres on allegations that Rang De Lal uses elements from Tirchi Topiwala, a song from the 1989 film Tridev, without authorisation. Trimurti Films has maintained that it controls the rights to the original composition and has challenged the song’s use in the film, in promotional material, and across digital platforms. With the film already in theatres, the case matters not only as a copyright clash but also as a business issue tied to music exploitation, publicity assets, and the title’s ongoing audience momentum.
Court Pushes The Song Row Toward Mediation
At the hearing, Justice Tushar Rao Gedela observed that the disagreement appeared to be financial in nature and directed the matter to mediation. The court also ordered the appointment of a senior mediator, signalling that the next phase will focus on whether the parties can settle licensing and compensation issues outside a prolonged legal contest.
Appearing for Trimurti Films, Senior Advocate Swathi Sukumar argued that the music had been used without the necessary licence, including in its independent digital exploitation. Senior Advocate Akhil Sibal, representing Super Cassettes Industries Limited, which holds the audio rights to the film’s songs, opposed interim relief and submitted that earlier uses of similar Tridev songs had not been disclosed by the plaintiff.
Senior Advocate Ravi Prakash, appearing for B62 Studios, informed the court that Dhurandhar The Revenge had already been released in theatres and was not expected to arrive on OTT before mid May. That detail sharpened the immediate stakes, because the challenge touches a song that forms part of the film’s promotional and revenue ecosystem even as its theatrical run continues.
