Dia Mirza has looked back at one of the most vulnerable moments of her early film career, and the memory still stands out for how deeply it changed her. Speaking about filming the song Mujhe Tumse Mohabbat Hai from Tumsa Nahin Dekha, the actor said the experience of stripping down in front of a crowded set ultimately left her feeling “liberated” and far more confident in her own body.
Dia Mirza Recalls A Defining Early Career Moment
During a recent conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Dia spoke about shooting the romantic track with Emraan Hashmi for Tumsa Nahin Dekha in 2004. She said, “It kind of liberated me in ways that I would have never imagined. And the confidence with which I was able to perform the song came from, of course, the fact that Vaibhavi Merchant, who is the choreographer of the song. And everyone working on it made me feel so safe. But it was possibly one of the most difficult things that I’ve ever done as a girl. Because I had to strip bare, almost down to underwear and a bra, in front of hundreds of men on set.”
She added that by the time the song was filmed, her understanding of performance had shifted in a fundamental way. “And it could have felt like a very… how do I explain it? It felt, but it didn’t, because by then, by the time we shot the song, I had become so aware of how important it is to find an actor’s character truth and what you are conveying through a character, that it didn’t matter to me whether there were 500 people or 1,000 people in the room.”
How The Film Helped Her Let Go Of Inhibitions
Dia said Tumsa Nahin Dekha remains a project she still thinks about because of what it unlocked within her as a performer. Reflecting on the kind of bold parts available at the time, she said, “Waise characters utne likhe nahi jaate the, especially mainstream format mein. Of course, maine aisi films mein bhi kaam kiya hai jahan par… Lete? (Such characters aren’t written anymore in the mainstream format) Tumsa Nahi Dekha, which was inspired by Pretty Woman, was very interestingly done. It was a very interesting film for me to work on. Because I always actually think back to that film, and I think of how liberating it was as an experience.”
She continued, “Because there were lots of, you know, preconceived concepts aur ideas that I shed when I worked on that film. I was a girl who came from Hyderabad. I came from a very conservative background. And, I was very, I wasn’t so confident in my body. That film made me really confident in my body, because there is that one song, ‘Mujhe Tumse Mohabbat Hai.’ That really unshackled me.”
Dia Mirza’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Dia was most recently seen in Netflix’s Operation Safed Sagar, which premiered on August 7, 2026, and was set against the backdrop of the 1999 Kargil War. The series was directed by Oni Sen and featured Siddharth, Jimmy Shergill, Abhay Verma, Prajakta Koli and Adil Hussain alongside her. Before that, she appeared in Nadaaniyan in 2025 and the road drama Dhak Dhak in 2023, which put her in a female-led ensemble with Ratna Pathak Shah, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanjana Sanghi.
Looking ahead, Dia also has Do Dil in post-production and Bhagam Bhag 2 in pre-production, adding to a phase of her career that has increasingly balanced streaming titles with ensemble feature projects.
