Dibyendu Bhattacharya has long been one of those actors who can shift the energy of a scene without raising his voice, and that same quiet authority is now heading into one of Hindi cinema’s biggest tentpoles. After drawing attention for his controlled performance in Maamla Legal Hai Season 2, the actor has spoken about joining Alpha, the Yash Raj Films spy thriller led by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, and his verdict on the experience is glowing.
For Bhattacharya, the excitement around Alpha comes at a time when audiences are also rediscovering how effective he can be in roles that do not scream for attention. His latest appearance in the Netflix series reminded viewers of his ability to hold back just enough, which makes his move into a larger, high-stakes commercial world feel especially intriguing.
Inside His Time On YRF’s Alpha Set
Speaking about the film, Bhattacharya did not reveal story details, but he made it clear that the shoot left a strong impression on him. “It was a fantastic shooting for Alpha. Aditya is a young director. He is dedicated and passionate. He leaves no stone unturned to achieve what he wants. The film boasts of good actors and technicians,” he said.
He was equally warm while speaking about Bhatt. “She is a good actor. It was during Poacher’s promotions that I met her for the first time,” he said. That sense of admiration fits neatly with the scale around Alpha, which is positioned as a major Yash Raj Films spy universe title. Directed by Shiv Rawail, the film stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari and is scheduled for a theatrical release on Christmas 2026.
Precision Over Punchlines In Maamla Legal Hai
Bhattacharya also reflected on the response to his role in Maamla Legal Hai Season 2, where he played a newly appointed judge in a world packed with eccentric comic turns. He admitted he was unsure how viewers would receive a character who was not chasing laughs in the same way as everyone around him. “I didn’t understand how people would take this character because everybody is doing comedy except me. But now, I feel people have liked my character a lot. They didn’t expect such a twist,” he said.
That restraint, he explained, was the hardest part of the job. “It was tough because I had to be precise as there is a certain dignity and sanctity attached to the position of a judge. [My character] also had to balance between how much to tell and not,” he said. The series premiered on Netflix on April 3, 2026.
Dibyendu Bhattacharya’s Recent And Upcoming Work
In recent years, Bhattacharya has continued to build a striking body of work across streaming and film, often emerging as the kind of performer who deepens an ensemble without overpowering it. He was seen in The Railway Men on Netflix and later returned to the gritty world of Undekhi, before Maamla Legal Hai Season 2 gave him space to explore a more controlled comic texture. The road ahead now looks even bigger with Alpha lined up for theatres and Raakh, directed by Prosit Roy for Prime Video, adding another notable title to a career phase defined by consistency, range and growing mainstream visibility.
