Sidharth Malhotra has wowed audiences with his outstanding performance in Shershaah, a film based on the biography of Kargil War hero Captain Vikram Batra. While the actor is being praised by both the public and critics, there was a time when Salman Khan and his brother-in-law, actor Aayush Sharma, had envisioned the biopic together.
Shabbir Boxwala, the producer of Shershaah, stated in a recent interview that the Dabangg actor contacted him with the idea of casting Aayush as Captain Vikram Batra.
Shabbir told Mid-Day that Salman wanted Aayush to make his Bollywood debut with Vishnuvardhan’s directorial, but that he had previously pitched Vikram Batra’s family Sidharth Malhotra’s name.
“Salman approached me at a stage when I was in talks with Junglee Pictures. He wanted Shershaah to be Aayush Sharma’s debut film, and wanted to partner with me on it,” Shabbir said. Captain Batra’s family ‘unanimously seconded’ the concept of him playing the Param Vir Chakra awardee, and Sidharth was cast in the role.
“It would have been highly unethical to drop him for another actor. When Captain Batra’s family gave me the rights, it was a big moment for me. They showed immense trust in me, and I didn’t want to go wrong at any step. I explained [my predicament] to Salman, who was understanding. Aayush was sweet and sportingly said that playing a double role in his debut movie might be [a tall order],” he added.
Aayush Sharma made his acting debut in Loveyatri, a film produced by Salman Khan Films and starring Warina Hussain.
