Aadhaar, Agra Stay And A Form C Twist Put Star Singer Under The Scanner

A singer’s India visit has run into an unexpected controversy, with the singer-actor now at the centre of a compliance row tied to his recent Agra stay. What should have been a routine stop during a professional trip has instead triggered scrutiny over foreign guest reporting rules, Aadhaar use, and whether his stays in India after acquiring US citizenship in 2022 were being properly recorded.

What Happened In Agra

Officials said singer checked into a prominent Agra hotel on Monday, October 26, between 4 pm and 6 pm. Hotel staff alerted the Foreigners Regional Registration Office after identification documents were not furnished at check-in. His Aadhaar was later presented, and after FRRO follow-up, Form C was submitted shortly after midnight on Tuesday. By then, he had already checked out.

Authorities have said this was the first time his stay in India was formally reported through Form C since he became a US citizen around 2022. He had entered India through Mumbai on a business visa for professional commitments.

Why The Filing Drew Attention

The Agra episode has put the spotlight on a rule that becomes crucial the moment a traveller is treated as a foreign national under Indian immigration procedure. Accommodation providers are required to electronically report every foreign national staying at their premises to the Registration Officer within 24 hours of check-in and check-out. The requirement applies irrespective of the duration of stay and extends to all foreign nationals, including OCI cardholders and minors.

In practical terms, that means the responsibility to file the form rests with the hotel or host establishment, while the guest must provide the required particulars for the filing to be completed.

Aadhaar Use Adds Another Layer

The scrutiny intensified because Diljit is said to have presented an Aadhaar that had originally been issued when he was an Indian citizen. Officials familiar with the matter said Aadhaar serves as an identity document and is not proof of citizenship. They also indicated that there is no current surrender mechanism triggered automatically by a later change in citizenship status.

That detail has added a second point of concern. Intelligence inputs cited by officials suggested that he visited an ASI-protected monument in Agra using the same Aadhaar, which may have enabled him to pay the domestic visitor fee instead of the higher foreign national charge.

Diljit Dosanjh’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Beyond the current controversy, Diljit remains one of the busiest crossover names in Indian entertainment. In the past few years, he has balanced Punjabi music, Hindi cinema and large-scale global touring, while also expanding his visibility well beyond the domestic market. His recent screen work has kept him firmly in the mainstream conversation, even as live performances continue to be a major part of his professional slate.

That is precisely why this episode has drawn such outsized attention. When a star with this singer’s profile lands in the middle of a bureaucratic and identity-linked controversy, the story instantly travels beyond paperwork and becomes a much bigger celebrity flashpoint.
