The latest escalation came ahead of IMPPA’s August 18 meeting, when Singh’s legal team submitted a letter objecting to the body’s involvement in the dispute. The communication also warned that if IMPPA chose to pass any decision in the matter, the actor would take legal recourse. The move marks a significant hardening of positions in a conflict that has continued months after Singh stepped away from the Farhan Akhtar directorial backed by Excel Entertainment.
Ranveer Singh’S Legal Stand In The Don 3 Matter
According to an IMPPA member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Singh’s side challenged the complaint on both contractual and jurisdictional grounds. The source said, “Before that meeting, Ranveer’s legal team sent a letter mentioning that he did not have a formal agreement with Excel Entertainment; instead, they had only a Memorandum of Understanding [MoU]. He also submitted a formal defence countering the Rs 45 crore claim. His letter also stated that IMPPA should dismiss the complaint as it did not fall under the body’s jurisdiction and that only the court could settle the matter.”
That response appears to have had an immediate impact. IMPPA had initially scheduled its first meeting on the issue for August 14, but the meeting was postponed after Singh’s letter reached the body. When the actor’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, arrived, he was informed that the discussion had been deferred.
That postponement is important because it shifts the dispute from an internal industry forum toward a wider legal and reputational battle. What may have begun as a disagreement over an actor’s exit is now turning into a larger flashpoint involving contractual interpretation, franchise planning, and the public optics of one of Hindi cinema’s most visible production banners.
