Drishyam 3 Postponed: Mohanlal Confirms New May 21, 2026 Release Date For Jeethu Joseph Thriller

Georgekutty’s return has officially moved, and the new date gives Drishyam 3 an even stronger spotlight. Mohanlal has confirmed that the Jeethu Joseph-directed thriller will now release in theatres worldwide on May 21, 2026, instead of its earlier April 2, 2026 slot. The shift instantly turns the film into a birthday event for the star, with the release now aligned with Mohanlal’s 66th birthday.

Why The New Date Makes Georgekutty’s Return Even Bigger

The revised release plan gives Drishyam 3 more than just a calendar change. By arriving on Mohanlal’s birthday, the film now carries the feel of a major event title, one designed to merge star power with franchise nostalgia. For a property as closely followed as Drishyam, that combination only raises the stakes.

Directed and written by Jeethu Joseph, Drishyam 3 brings back the creative force behind the 2013 original and Drishyam 2 from 2021. The film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas, with Mohanlal leading the cast alongside Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil. That continuity matters because the Drishyam films have always drawn their strength from familiarity, placing viewers back inside a world where every detail can become a clue and every silence can carry danger.

The franchise already occupies a rare space in Indian cinema, having expanded far beyond its Malayalam roots through multiple remakes and sustained audience recall. That is precisely why even a release-date shift becomes headline material. The new May 21 launch does not dilute momentum. It sharpens it, giving the third chapter a more celebratory and high-visibility landing.

Mohanlal’s Recent And Upcoming Work

The scale of interest around Drishyam 3 also reflects where Mohanlal stands in his career right now. Even after decades at the top, he continues to balance ambitious theatrical choices with prestige streaming work, which makes every confirmed big-screen move feel significant. In January 2024, he headlined Malaikottai Vaaliban, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. Later, he featured in Manorathangal, the anthology film that premiered on ZEE5 in August 2024.

Looking ahead, Drishyam 3 is one of his biggest confirmed theatrical events for 2026. Mohanlal is also attached to Tharun Moorthy’s L366, co-starring Meera Jasmine, and a reunion with Priyadarshan for the director’s 100th film has also been confirmed. At this stage of his career, that mix of legacy franchise power and fresh collaborations is exactly what keeps a title like Drishyam 3 at the centre of conversation.
