Drishyam The Conclusion is not just holding ground at the box office, it is now creating a full-blown exhibition squeeze. After crossing the Rs 300 crore mark on Sunday, October 11, the Ajay Devgn-led thriller has prompted distributor Panorama Studios to push for an aggressive third-week screen allocation, leaving cinemas to juggle space for Nayyi Navelli, Prahaar, Street Fighter and Jailer 2.
Panorama’s Week 3 Ask Has Put Theatres In A Bind
The key flashpoint is Panorama’s fresh demand for show allotments beginning October 16. Single-screen cinemas have been asked to assign at least three shows a day to Drishyam The Conclusion. The demand rises with screen count, going up to 15 shows in properties with seven screens or more. That level of holdover pressure is unusual for a film entering its third week, but the strong weekday trend has clearly emboldened the distributor.
The standoff has now spilled into the advance booking cycle. Several cinemas have still not opened bookings for the coming week as exhibitors attempt to balance Panorama’s insistence with commitments to new releases. The jam is especially tricky because four competing titles are also seeking space in the same corridor.
The New Releases Waiting For Screens
The immediate challengers are Nayyi Navelli, Prahaar, Street Fighter and Jailer 2. Among them, Jailer 2 is the highest-profile title in the mix. It is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and stars Rajinikanth in the lead, with a supporting ensemble that includes S. J. Suryah, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, Anna Rajan, Jatin Sarna, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan. The action comedy is backed by Sun Pictures as a sequel to the 2023 hit Jailer. Its premise continues the story of Muthuvel Pandian, the retired jailer whose violent past refuses to stay buried.
The release gridlock has naturally increased pressure on exhibitors, especially in multiplex chains where scheduling flexibility is wider on paper but harder in practice once large distributors begin locking show counts.
What Trade Voices Are Saying
A trade source said, “The distributors have asked single-screen cinemas to allot at least 3 shows to Drishyam The Conclusion from October 16. In two-screen theatres, they have sought 5 shows, while in three-screen cinemas, they have asked for 6 shows, including 1 morning show. In four-screen multiplexes, their request is for 7 shows, including 1 morning show, and in five-screen multiplexes, they have asked for 8 shows, including 1 morning show. In six-screen cinemas, they have sought 10 shows, while for theatres with seven screens or more, their demand is for 15 shows.”
The source added, “Their request has put exhibitors in a dilemma, as several films are lined up for release this week, including Nayyi Navelli, Prahaar, Street Fighter, Jailer 2, Ranabaali, etc. All these films have the potential to attract audiences, including the last two, which will also release in Hindi. As a result, cinemas are trying to negotiate with the distributors of various films and arrive at a consensus.”
An industry insider commented, “Drishyam The Conclusion still has a lot of gas left in the tank and can continue to attract audiences despite the competition. The makers have also asked exhibitors to sell tickets at regular prices, which should further entice moviegoers.”
