On August 11, 2022, the audience will watch the box office clash between between two big films: Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha. While the first film, featuring Akshay Kumar, is rumoured to be highly emotional, the second film, starring Aamir Khan, is an official version of the Tom Hanks film Forrest Gump. But the question is which of these two movies, Raksha Bandhan or Laal Singh Chaddha will eventually grab the lead.
Well, let’s take a look and see how Akshay Kumar starrer might struggle at the box office while facing a clash with Aamir Khan’s film due to the following reasons:
First point being that Aamir Khan starrer is always an event film as he comes to cinemas in every 3 years or so. Whereas Akshay Kumar comes to screens at least 4 times a year And that’s why it’s always about content in his care as there is no anticipation.
Till date highest grosser of Akshay Kumar has similar numbers what Aamir Khan achieved more than a decade back with 3 Idiots. This is another factor that needs to be noted.
Another important point is that cinemas will give 60-65% screens to Aamir Khan and that will give him further upper hand.
The distributing partners for Akshay’s Rakshabandhan is Zee Studios which has dubious record with Aditya Roy Kapur’s Rashtra Kavach OM, Kangana Ranaut starrer Dhaakad and many more flops due to bad distribution strategies. On the top of that, Kanika Dhillon is joining Himanshu Sharma as a writer for the first time after she wrote Haseen Dillruba in addition to disaster Judgmentall Hai Kya.
Overall it’s a competition between a sure shot film versus a film which might become an average grosser.
Written by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon, the Aanand L Rai directorial Rakshabandhan has been co-produced by Aanand L Rai, Alka Hiranandanai and ZEE Studios. It is Presented by Colour Yellow, ZEE Studios and Cape of Good Films, the film is set to hit screens on 11th August 2022.
‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, on the other hand, has been produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Kiran Rao, and Viacom18 Studios, also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Chaitanya Akkineni.
