EXCLUSIVE: Akshay Kumar takes U turn via Anand L Rai on his 40 day shoot mantra after Samrat Prithviraj flopped, check out the video

Akshay Kumar hasn’t fared well in the Samrat Prithviraj afterlife. A number of critics have criticised the movie’s major actors, Manushi Chhillar and Akshay Kumar. The film received mixed reviews, but there have been rumours that producer Aditya Chopra wasn’t pleased with Kumar’s dedication—or lack thereof—and that he even refused to grow a real moustache. However, nothing here is official. This entire conversation is nothing but rumours.

Samrat Prithviraj’s trailer debut was when Kumar first revealed that the movie was finished in 42 days. Kumar is renowned for being a stern disciplinarian who values finishing his movies by the deadline. The actor often needs a month to finish a movie. In the past, Kumar has acknowledged that he is not an actor who will devote months to fully inhabiting his role.

During the song debut for his movie Raksha Bandhan yesterday [29 June], Akshay was sarcastically questioned about how long it took him to finish filming. In response to the query, Kumar turned to gaze at Aanand L. Rai, his director.

“How do I calculate this? You tell me? He (Akshay Kumar) will simply say that he finished a film in 40-45 days but I think his calculation is all wrong. He’s deliberately misled people by repeatedly saying this,” said Rai.

“You should ask 40-45 days of what kind? Those days when he reported to the sets at 6.30 am and didn’t leave till work is finished. Producers ask him for 40 days, but effectively all that effort amounts to 80-90 days of work, if you calculate by the time he spends each day,” reveals the director.

The journalist then brought up R. Madhavan’s most recent statement, in which the actor claimed that it was impossible to shoot a quality movie in less than 40 or 45 days. The journalist then used the lengthy production times of popular South Indian movies like Pushpa and RRR as an example.

“What should I say? My films wind up in 40 days. What can I do? Director tells me my work is over, go home. Now should I fight with the director over it?” quipped Kumar.

Anand L. Rai chipped in again saying, “When he has some free time, we ask him to play Ludo. And we do get such time with him.”
