In late April 2020, news broke that Varun Dhawan was in talks to play the lead in the Hindi remake of Theri (2016). It wasn’t clear if Atlee, the original film’s director, would direct the remake or hand it over to someone else. Atlee met Dhawan in Mumbai in 2019 to discuss a potential collaboration.
By March 2022, reports indicated that production would start soon, as Dhawan had finished his other commitments. Atlee and Dhawan met again to finalise the project. On March 19, their collaboration was officially announced. Initially titled VD18, it was revealed that Atlee would produce the film under his company, A for Apple Productions, along with Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios. Kalees, Atlee’s former assistant and director of the 2019 film Kee, was chosen to direct.
The official title, Baby John, was announced on February 5, 2023. Originally set for release on May 31, the film was postponed, leaving fans eagerly waiting. Now, our sources have shared the latest update on the release of Baby John.
Baby John To Release In August 2024?
Box Office Worldwide has learned that Varun Dhawan’s action film might be released in the first week of August. The expected release date is August 2, and it will compete with Vikrant Massey and Raashii Khanna’s film, The Sabarmati Report.
Earlier, the film was delayed due to incomplete production and post-production work. Now, the makers are ready, and preparations are in full swing.
The two films belong to different genres and might attract different audiences. Varun Dhawan’s film is an action movie, a popular genre, while Vikrant Massey’s film is based on the real-life Godhra train burning tragedy. Massey gained immense popularity with the 12th Fail, which might help The Sabarmati Report.
It’s uncertain how the box office clash will affect the films, but it will be interesting to see the outcome if it happens.
