Exclusive: From Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan to Taapsee Pannu’s Shabaash Mithu, it’s raining biopics in Bollywood!

The impressive list of upcoming Bollywood films, particularly biopics, gives us hope that we will soon be able to view films that are entertaining

The enthusiasm for sports biopics in Hindi film is relatively new. Perhaps the success of Shah Rukh Khan’s Chak De India convinced the directors that the genre would find an audience.

Many Bollywood directors are interested in making films that are inspired by true stories and based on real individuals, ranging from sports celebrities to politicians and other real-life heroes. True stories are something that Bollywood adores.

The impressive list of upcoming Bollywood films, particularly biopics, gives us hope that we will soon be able to view films that are entertaining. Check out the upcoming biopics here:

Gangubai Kathiawadi:
This film, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is one of the most anticipated films of 2021. Gangubai Kathiawadi has received a lot of media attention since it was revealed. According to sources, Bhansali was planning to cast Priyanka Chopra in the starring role, but Alia Bhatt was cast instead. Gangubai, Kamathipura’s most feared and respected madam, will be played by Bhatt.

Thalaivi:
Thalaivi is a biopic of late Tamil politician J. Jayalalithaa, starring Kangana Ranaut. The bilingual film will follow the late leader’s path from the silver screen to politics. It stars Arvind Swami, Prakash Raj, Madhoo, and Bhagyashree and is directed by AL Vijay.

Shabaash Mithu:
Shabaash Mithu is a biopic starring Taapsee Pannu as Mithali Raj, the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team. The film tells the story of Mithali Raj, one of the finest female cricketers in the world, and covers the highs and lows, disappointments and moments of elation in Mithali’s life. Taapsee Pannu plays Mithali.

83‘:
One of the biggest name on the list is the movie which follows the journey of Indian cricketers story from the 1983. Based on the worldcup winning team of India, the movie features Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone as lead casts amongst a whole host of other actors. The movie is directed by Kabir Khan and jointly produced by himself, Vishnuvardhan Induri, Deepika Padukone and Sajid Nadiadwala.

Sardar Udham Singh:
Sardar Udham Singh is an upcoming biographical film about Udham Singh, a revolutionary freedom warrior most remembered for assassinating Michael O’Dwyer in London in retaliation for the 1919 Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The film stars the talented actor Vicky Kaushal.

Pippa:
The plot revolves around India’s role following the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. The film is said to be about a tank named Pippa and a man named Balram Singh Mehta (played by Ishaan Khattar) who went on to become a brigadier and saved his brother’s life, and his bravery is still remembered today.

Shershaah:
Shershaah is a forthcoming Hindi-language biographical war action drama film directed by Tamil filmmaker Vishnuvardhan in his Hindi directorial debut and produced by Dharma Productions and Kaash Entertainment. It follows the life of Param Vir Chakra awardee and army captain Vikram Batra. The film stars Sidharth Malhotra as the lead.

Maidaan:
After the huge success of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Ajay Devgn is all set for his upcoming film Maidaan. It is a biographical sports film based on the golden era of Indian football, which stars Ajay as football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Maidaan is directed by Amit Sharma and produced by Zee Studios in collaboration with Bayview Projects LLP.

From 1950 until he died in 1963, Rahim was the manager of the Indian national side and is credited with redefining modern Indian football.
