Exclusive: How success of Ek Villain Returns Will Cement The Success Of Massy Films Post Pandemic

After debacle of YRF’s Shamshera, there is general atmosphere of gloom with in the trade and industry. Lot of critics and pessimist are busy writing notes about end of big budget bollywood films. But there is a glimmer of hope from lot of big films lined up in coming months. And most certain hope is Ek Villain Returns starting John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Tara Sutaria and Disha Patani. Fil is produced by Balaji Films and T Series.

Film has been bought for 22 cr all India price and has moderate budget of production of under 50 cr. Film has smashing massy trailer with glamour from young hot heroines and intense massy dialogues from leading heroes. Film has chartbuster song from first part which was the case with successful sequel Bhool Bhullaiya 2. Film is directed by Mohit Suri, probably last active director who still believes in Mahesh Bhatt formula of sex, violence and music.

If this film opens in range of 6-8 cr nett then it will be big boost for the exhibitors as well as distributors especially in massy centers. All post pandemic hits RRR, KGF 2, Pushpa, Bhool Bhullaiya 2 were massy hits and none of these films were urban films. Also most of these films had one chartbuster song at least and this sequel has couple of those. If this sequel succeeds too then this fact will be cemented that this massy cinema is only way cinemas can revive box office fortune.

Also this brand of cinema is critic/review proof and least affected by OTT wave as this cinema best enjoyed in HOUSEFULL cinema hall among masses. Flops like Samrat Prithviraj, Shamshera and Jayeshbhai Jordaar – all were either preachy or lacked this brand of cinema.

Next Friday will answer lots of questions and probably in affirmative for Bollywood!
