EXCLUSIVE: Shabana Azmi Joins Sunny Deol As A Lead In Aamir Khan Production ‘Lahore 1947’; Read About Her Character Inside

Lahore 1947 is an upcoming Hindi movie that is produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The movie stars Sunny Deol as the lead character. The movie is based on the play “Jisne Lahore nahi dekhya, wo Jamye nahi” by Asghar Wajahat, which is a hard-hitting take on the events of the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947.

Exclusive: Shabana Azmi joins the cast of Lahore 1947

The exclusive update that Box Office Worldwide has on the film is that Bollywood veteran Shabana Azmi has joined the primary cast of Lahore 1947.

She is set to play a Hindu old lady who lives in a house in Lahore and claims her right over it. Reportedly, the film revolves primarily around her character. Lahore 1947 is expected to go on floors in January 2024.

Lahore 1947 story revolves around Shabana Azmi’s character

The story of this play is set in Lahore after the partition of the country in 1947. The story follows a Muslim family that moves from Lucknow to Lahore. There they are allotted a big house. When the family arrives at the house, they see that an old woman from a Hindu family has stayed there. The woman claims her right over the house, and the Muslim family feels that they cannot own the house until she leaves. This is where the conflict begins in the story.

The old woman does not leave the house and slowly a relationship develops between her and the family who came to live there. When the goons find out that a Hindu old woman is still there, they try to evict her. But the family from Lucknow saves her. When the old woman dies, the question arises as to how her funeral rites should be performed. Then, on the advice of the local Maulvi, her last rites are performed according to the Hindu tradition. They burn her body on the banks of the Ravi. The goons are angry and kill the Maulvi.

The movie will explore the themes of identity, violence, displacement, and communal harmony through the story.

First collaboration between Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol

The movie marks the first collaboration between Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol, who have a connection that goes back in time. Aamir worked as an assistant to his uncle Nasir Hussain for two films that starred Sunny Deol: Manzil Manzil and Zabardast. Aamir also featured as a child artist in Yaadon Ki Baaraat that starred Sunny Deol’s father Dharmendra.

The movie also reunites Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi, who have worked together in films like Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak. Aamir Khan has expressed his excitement and happiness to collaborate with the immensely talented Sunny and his favorite director Raj Santoshi.

Aamir Khan took to Instagram to share the news with his followers. He wrote, “I, and the entire team at AKP, are most excited and happy to announce our next, starring Sunny Deol, directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi, titled Lahore 1947. We look forward to collaborating with the immensely talented Sunny, and one of my favourite directors Raj Santoshi. The journey we have embarked on promises to be most enriching.
