A fact check reveals an interesting finding. In the Hindi version of Kalki 2898 AD currently streaming on Netflix, Deepika Padukone‘s name has indeed been omitted from the end credits. However, the other four language versions including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam that are streaming on Amazon Prime Video continue to feature her name in the credits. This inconsistency has raised questions about whether this was an intentional move or a technical error.
The Official Exit Announcement
Back in September 2025, Vyjayanthi Movies, the production banner behind Kalki 2898 AD, made an official announcement confirming that Deepika Padukone would not return for the sequel. The statement shared on the production house’s social media handles addressed the matter directly. It read that after careful consideration, they have decided to part ways, and despite the long journey of making the first film, they were unable to find a partnership for the sequel.
The production house emphasized that a film like Kalki 2898 AD deserves complete commitment and much more. They concluded the statement by wishing the actress the best with her future works. The announcement came after reports emerged about Deepika’s alleged demand for an eight hour work shift, which reportedly did not sit well with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Mythri Movie Makers.
Significance Of Her Character
The removal of credits, if intentional, is particularly significant given the central role Deepika’s character played in the first film. She portrayed SUM-80, and the entire narrative of Kalki 2898 AD revolved around her character and the unborn child prophesied to be the final avatar of Lord Vishnu known as Kalki. Her character was not a supporting role but integral to the story’s core mythology.
Silence From Both Sides
While this development has stirred strong reactions across social media platforms, neither the actress nor the production house has issued any official statement addressing the matter of the credit removal. The silence from both parties has only fueled more speculation among fans and industry watchers about what really transpired behind the scenes.
