Farah Khan has revealed that she had once offered a script to Shah Rukh Khan that was similar to his upcoming film Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
Farah Khan, who has worked with Shah Rukh Khan in films like Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om and Happy New Year, said that the earlier version of Happy New Year was about four boys who go to America to participate in a dance competition.
However, the superstar did not approve of it. She claimed that this version had a striking resemblance to Dunki.

Farah Khan reveals how Dunki is similar to Happy New Year’s earlier script
During a recent chat with Bharti Singh and Harsh Lambachiya in their podcast, Farah Khan revealed that she was surprised when she saw the promo of Dunki because the story was very similar to her earlier version of Happy New Year.
She said, “I wrote a version of Happy New Year that Shah Rukh did not like. It is very strange because now I’m watching the promo of Dunki… That Happy New Year was about 4 boys who want to go to America and be tadipaar (illegal immigrants) and the only way they want to do it is if they take part in a dance competition because the finals are in Las Vegas.”
Why Shah Rukh Khan did not approve script
Farah Khan further recalled that Shah Rukh Khan did not like the script as he felt he would look “too old”. She said, “‘I will look too old, I’m too old to play this young boy.”
Online rumours also suggest that Dunki could be a modified version of Munna Bhai Chale America, the third film of the series that was originally planned with Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi but never happened.

Dunki is slated to release on December 21, 2023, clashing with Prabhas-starrer Salaar Part 1 – Ceasefire, directed by Prashanth Neel. The film marks SRK’s first collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani, and his third release this year, after Pathaan and Jawan, which were both blockbuster hits.
