Sonu Sood‘s much-anticipated directorial debut Fateh opened with a promising Rs 2.61 crore on its first day at the box office. The action-packed entertainer, which also stars Jacqueliene Fernandez, has garnered attention for its engaging premise centred on cybercrime, and the opening numbers have exceeded expectations.
Fateh Shows Strong Start On Day 1
Trade analysts had initially predicted an opening in the Rs 70 lakh to Rs 1 crore range, making the Rs 2.61 crore figure a pleasant surprise for the filmmakers and the actor-turned-director. The film marks a significant return for Sood as a lead actor, especially after his philanthropic efforts during the pandemic, which earned him widespread admiration.
Fateh had an overall occupancy rate of 29.14% across theatres. Morning shows recorded a modest 10.60% occupancy, while the afternoon and evening shows saw a gradual improvement with 20.50% and 28.53% occupancy, respectively. The night shows, however, picked up considerably, with an impressive 56.93% occupancy. These figures suggest that the film has potential for growth as more audiences flock to the cinemas over the weekend.
Despite the strong opening, Fateh faces intense competition at the box office. Sood’s film is up against massive releases like Game Changer, starring Ram Charan, which earned Rs 51 crore on its opening day. Additionally, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 continues to perform strongly, still running in its sixth weekend.
Even though Fateh is playing against bigger films, it has managed to hold its own, especially when compared to Game Changer. The Hindi-dubbed version of Game Changer brought in around Rs 7 crore on Friday, while the total box office collection for the film across all languages (Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam) reached Rs 51.25 crore. Despite the stiff competition, Fateh is expected to see growth in its earnings over the weekend, with Saturday likely bringing in stronger numbers.
Sonu Sood Says Every ‘Common Man’ Inspires His Film
In a heartfelt video shared on social media, Sonu Sood explained the motivation behind the film. “In 2020, when we were hit by Covid, many people who reached out to me for help were victims of cybercrime. They were dealing with fraud, and money was drained from their accounts. This deeply resonated with me, and I wanted to tell the story of the common man,” he shared.
He went on to add, “Fateh is a film made for the common man, and I wanted it to reach everyone in the most accessible way across India. That’s why we’ve decided to price tickets at just Rs 99 for the first day. Additionally, I will be donating the entire profit from the film to charity as my way of giving back to people.”
