The highly anticipated sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD has been generating excitement ever since its announcement, thanks to its captivating trailer and the recent release of the “Bhairava Anthem.” Adding to the anticipation, the filmmakers have unveiled a special prelude to the film as part of their ambitious promotional strategy.
The first episode of The Prelude of Kalki 2898 AD provides viewers with a sneak peek into the world envisioned by Director Nag Ashwin.
In a four-minute video, Nag Ashwin discusses his inspiration drawn from classic Indian mythology and epics, aiming to blend these elements seamlessly with the sci-fi genre.
Nag Ashwin Mentions Patal Bhairavi & Aditya 369 As His Childhood Favourites
Reflecting on Indian culture, Nag Ashwin highlights the profound influence of epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana. He delves into the concept of the four yugas (ages) and their pivotal battles, noting that Kalki 2898 AD portrays the climactic battle of the Kali Yuga, envisioning the dawn of a new era.
Nag Ashwin reminisces about his childhood fascination with Indian films like Pathala Bhairavi and Aditya 369. He expresses a desire to showcase India’s rich narrative tradition on par with global classics such as Star Wars.
“When I watched Hollywood movies like Star Wars, I felt a bit disappointed because we also have such great stories in India,” Nag Ashwin remarks.
“Mahabharata is the greatest battle with the most number of characters, ending with Krishnavataram. Exploring how Dwapara Yuga ended and how Kali Yuga began is a concept worth exploring,” he adds.
Director Claims The Plot Of Kalki 2898 AD Has A Universal Appeal
The director asserts that Kalki 2898 AD is a story with universal appeal, transcending cultural boundaries. “It’s essentially the culmination of all Indian epics,” he explains. “Kali (demon) appears in every yuga, taking different forms like Ravana and Duryodhana. How Kali will manifest in this final yuga is a question we explore in the film.”
Produced by Chalasani Aswini Dutt, Swapna Dutt, and Priyanka Dutt, the film marks Nag Ashwin’s ambitious follow-up to his acclaimed debut feature, Mahanati (2018). The ensemble cast includes stellar names such as Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan in significant roles, with special appearances by Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani adding to the star power.
