Former CBFC Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani Believes Pathaan Is A ‘Victim Of Controversy’, Says ‘The CBFC Must Have Got Pressurised From….’

Pahlaj said CBFC must have received pressure from the ministry to see it carefully because of saffron colour.

Pathaan is set to release on January 25, 2023, which is full of drama and action which is directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Aditya Chopra. It stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone in lead roles and will have John Abraham as antagonist. It showcases an undercover police official and drug lord. Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani have worked on its music. It will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu.

Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) recently asked its makers to make changes in film, including songs, asking them to send the revised version. Pathaan, sent for censorship, received outrage at Deepika’s attire. The latest bollywood news is that former CBFC Chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani broke his silence saying the film is a victim of controversy and must have received pressure from the ministry to see it carefully because of saffron colour.

“There’s no guideline that states that a colour can be cut. You can suggest changes if there’s vulgarity or obscenity. But if they ask for cuts because of colour, it would be a wrong proceeding. There could be pressure from the ministry… Pathaan is a victim of controversy. The CBFC must have got pressurised from the ministry to delete this portion of saffron colour. Otherwise, they had cleared the costume and the shot in the trailer,” Etimes quoted Pahlaj as saying.

“It is the committee’s right to decide what cuts and modifications are needed. They will have to see the revised version. Prasoon Joshi might have given a statement but he has no right to watch Pathaan with the examining committee. He must have got pressure from the ministry to see the film carefully because of saffron colour. If they suggest a cut because of colour then it would be a wrong proceeding,” he added.

According to PTI, Prasoon stated, “I must reiterate that our culture and faith is glorious, intricate and nuanced. And we have to be careful that it does not get defined by trivia which takes the focus away from the real and the true. And like I have said earlier as well, that the trust between creators and audience is most important to protect and the creators should keep working towards it.”

Some right-wing members, Ayodhya Saint, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra reportedly said that Deepika’s costume being used in Besharam Rang from Pathaan should be corrected or deleted. The minister reportedly theatened to ban the film in the state. Protests erupted in Indore against the film and burnt the effigy of SRK weeks ago.
