Gangubai Kathiawadi: SC suggests title change for Alia Bhatt starrer 2 days before release

The film Gangubai Kathiawadi will have its international premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in 2022. This Friday, February 25, the movie will be released in theatres. The Supreme Court has purportedly advised a name change in light of a plethora of outstanding cases attempting to prevent Gangubai Kathiawadi’s release. Siddhartha Dave, Bhansali Productions’ lawyer, has pledged to consider the suggestion with his client. The hearing has been postponed till tomorrow.

The claimed adoptive son of Gangubai, Babu Raoji Shah, has launched a lawsuit against the film. The Bombay High Court has refused to stay Gangubai Kathiawadi’s release. Talking to AajTak.in, Babu Raoji Shah said, “My mother has been turned into a prostitute. People are now saying inexplicable things about my mother.”

The usage of the area name in Gangubai Kathiawadi was also challenged in the Bombay High Court by Maharashtra MLA Amin Patel, a Kamathipura native.

She subsequently becomes Gangubai, a madame in Kamathipura’s red light district. The film chronicles her ascent to prominence and she battles with one challenge after another.
