Zohra Sehgal was one of India’s iconic actresses. Today, Google dedicated a doodle in memory of the veteran actor.

In 1946 today her film ‘Neecha Nagar’ was released at the Cannes Film Festival and reportedly won the festival’s highest honour, the Palme d’Or prize.

Zohra Sehgal aka Sahibzaadi Begum Zohra Mumtazullah Khan was born on April 27, 1912 in Uttar Pradesh.

Zohra went to a prestigious school in Germany to learn ballet in her 20s. She also went on to tour internationally with legendary Indian dancer Uday Shankar. Later she became a teacher at Uday Shankar’s troupe.

She tied the knot with her partner Kameshwar Sehgal in August 1942 and had two children.

She made a mark in the entertainment industry with her immense talent and versatile personality.

Zohra Sehgal passed away at the age of 102 at her Delhi residence on July 10, 2014.
