The David Dhawan school of entertainment has always moved to a beat of its own, loud, colourful, mischievous and impossible to separate from the dance floor. With Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, that signature rhythm is driving the film’s pre release conversation, with music emerging as a major talking point.
Ever since the trailer arrived, the film has drawn attention for promising a return to Dhawan’s familiar zone of comedy, confusion, romance and large scale family entertainment. Now, with Chunnari Chunnari grabbing the spotlight, the soundtrack is tapping directly into the filmmaker’s long standing relationship with massy Bollywood music.
Chunnari Chunnari Leads The Musical Buzz
Chunnari Chunnari brings a fresh spin to the 1999 hit associated with Biwi No. 1, another David Dhawan entertainer remembered for its colour, comedy and star power. The new version features Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in a glossy dance setup, keeping the nostalgia intact while styling it for a younger audience.
The track has been presented by Tips Music, with the recreated version credited to Akshay and IP. The original music is by Anu Malik, with original lyrics by Sameer Anjaan and additional lyrics by IP Singh. The new version features voices including IP Singh, Jonita Gandhi, Asees Kaur, Sudhir Yaduvanshi and Anuradha Sriram.
What makes the response especially notable is the way the song fits into a larger David Dhawan legacy. His films have often treated music as more than promotional material. From Tan Tana Tan Tan Tan Tara in Judwaa and Husn Hai Suhana in Coolie No. 1 to Just Chill in Partner, the director’s biggest hits have lived on through their soundtracks long after release.
David Dhawan Returns To His Musical Comedy Zone
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is directed by David Dhawan and stars Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. The ensemble also includes Jimmy Shergill, Chunky Panday, Mouni Roy, Ali Asgar, Rajesh Kumar, Rakesh Bedi and Kubbra Sait. The film is a Tips Industries Films production and is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 5, 2026.
The film is being positioned as a commercial romantic comedy built around mistaken identities, chaos, family friendly humour and music driven spectacle. Its premise is rooted in the crowded, fast paced comic universe that Dhawan turned into a defining Bollywood template through the 1990s and 2000s.
For Varun Dhawan, who previously collaborated with his father on Main Tera Hero, Judwaa 2 and Coolie No. 1, the film also marks another return to the entertainer space where dance, comedy and star energy do much of the heavy lifting.
As the release date approaches, Chunnari Chunnari has given Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai the kind of pop culture push a David Dhawan entertainer thrives on, bringing his big screen musical comedy mood firmly back into the spotlight.
