Shilpa Shetty Kundra has found herself in legal trouble following her husband Raj Kundra’s detention in a pornographic case on July 19. In connection with the matter, Shilpa has already been questioned twice by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch. Now, filmmaker Hansal Mehta has taken to Twitter to defend the actor. He asked everyone to leave her alone on Twitter on Friday.

Since the arrest, Shilpa and Raj Kundra have been brutally mocked online. The Hungama 2 star has filed a defamation complaint against media outlets and social media platforms for disseminating derogatory content about her in the Bombay High Court.

In his tweet, Hansal wrote, “If you cannot stand up for her at least leave Shilpa Shetty alone and let the law decide? Allow her some dignity and privacy. It is unfortunate that people in public life ultimately are left to fend for themselves and are proclaimed guilty even before justice is meted out”.

“This vilification is a pattern. If the allegations are against a film person there is a rush to invade privacy, to pass sweeping judgment, to character-assassinate, to fill ‘news’ with trashy gossip all at the cost of individuals and their dignity. This is the cost of silence,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court ordered a few media outlets to remove their content after hearing Shilpa’s defamation suit on Friday. The court did clarify, however, that this should not be construed as a media blackout.
