Hansal Mehta, the director behind Scam 1992 and Shahid, is now entering the production field. He has launched his own production company, True Story Films, in partnership with producer Sahil Saigal. The company is also supported by well-known figures like Vinod Bhanushali and Parag Sanghvi.
Hansal Mehta Turns Producer With True Story Films
True Story Films has an initial budget of INR 5 billion ($58 million). The company will work on both theatrical and streaming content, with plans to produce a variety of projects, from serious dramas to comedies. This marks Mehta’s first move into production after gaining recognition as a director.
“True Story Films is more than just a production company for me – it’s the realization of a dream to create compelling personal stories and to work with diverse storytellers,” Mehta said.
His goal is to create content that challenges the norm, sparks conversation, and entertains deeply.
Saigal, who produced Faraaz and The Buckingham Murders, will manage the business side of True Story Films. Mehta will focus on the creative direction. Together, they aim to bring fresh voices and ideas to the forefront while working with established talent.
Production Starts This Year With 2026 Releases
The company plans to start production in 2025, with the first projects expected in early 2026. Mehta’s entry into production comes as the digital entertainment market becomes more competitive, with a high demand for quality content.
Vinod Bhanushali, head of Bhanushali Studios Ltd., sees this partnership as a natural next step. “As a producer, my passion lies in telling compelling stories that resonate with audiences. Partnering with a creative genius like Hansal Mehta is a natural step forward,” Bhanushali said.

True Story Films, with strong backing and Mehta’s leadership, aims to leave a mark on the entertainment industry.
