Akshay Kumar has been facing a tough time at the box office. Manoj Desai. Known for his straightforward opinions on Bollywood, Desai has commented on Kumar’s recent string of flops. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Kumar’s movies have had a hard time performing well, even though there have been some notable successes.
While Kumar’s action-packed drama Sooryavanshi and the social comedy OMG 2 managed to find their audience, many of his other recent releases have flopped. Movies like Bell Bottom, Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Ram Setu, Raksha Bandhan, Selfiee, and the latest Bade Miyan Chote Miyan failed to capture the public’s interest. Even Sarfira, a remake of a well-regarded Tamil film, couldn’t do anything good for him.
Manoj Desai Has THIS Advise For Akshay Kumar
During the conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Desai offered some direct advice to Kumar, suggesting that the actor should shift his focus from merely performing to selecting superior content. Desai stressed the importance of choosing scripts that have the potential to impress the viewers.
Desai said, “He needs to be serious and I’ve told him this before too. We’ve spoken. I told him – Sir, you should become serious, and I’ll tell you what to be serious about. Not the acting, but the content. Choose extraordinary content. That’s what will work.”
He Also Feels Akshay Kumar’s Films Lack Marketing Strategies
Desai also criticised the marketing strategies surrounding Kumar’s films. He noted that films like Kalki 2898 AD received more promotional push than Sarfira. According to Desai, the lack of effective promotion has further hampered the performance of Kumar’s movies.
“Nobody’s promoting the films,” Desai commented. “Kalki 2898 AD was promoted more than Sarfira. What’s happened to Akshay? Why isn’t he promoting his films? There’s no publicity in newspapers about where the film is playing. Everyone has to check BookMyShow to see where it’s showing. That’s not fair.”
For the unversed, Akshay Kumar was recently seen in Sarfira. He will next appear in Khel Khel Mein featuring Taapsee Pannu. It clashes with Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 and John Abraham’s Vedaa. Additionally, there are reports of his cameo in Shraddha’s horror comedy.
