It is not often that we see a superstar admit that their film has failed. But Hrithik Roshan has done just that. In a video that is going viral on social media, the actor is seen accepting the box office failure of his massive film War 2. The film was one of the biggest releases of the year but could not live up to the huge expectations.
The incident happened at a recent event where Hrithik was present. The host introduced him as a “superstar” and asked the audience to give him a big round of applause. Hrithik took the mic and gave a very honest reply. He said that it was very kind of the host to say that, but his film had just bombed at the box office. He added that it felt good to receive love even after a failure.
The Box Office Reality
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film had a massive budget of over Rs 300 crore. It also marked the Hindi film debut of Jr NTR. While it took a great opening of Rs 52 crore, the collections dropped significantly after the first weekend.
Trade experts have also called it a disappointment. The film did not sustain well on holidays and the word of mouth was not positive enough to carry such a big budget project. It has turned out to be the weakest performing film in the spy universe so far.
Hrithik Had A Feeling?
Interestingly, before the release, Hrithik had shared a note saying that playing the character of Kabir felt “too easy” this time. He had written that he felt very relaxed and knew the character well. But he also mentioned a voice in his head that warned him against being too comfortable.
He had said that he kept shutting out the voice that said “this is too easy”. Now, looking back, it seems that his instinct might have been alerting him about the film. Despite the result, fans are appreciating his honesty and grace in accepting the verdict.
