A 16-Hour Shoot Done For Friendship, Not Fees!
Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi is making headlines again, but this time it’s for the love of giving back, not the cost to the production. The actress is said to have filmed an electrifying item number for Rajkummar Rao‘s upcoming gangster drama Maalik completely free of charge.
Yes, you read that correctly! Huma, who recently worked alongside Rao in the neo-noir film Monica O My Darling, has collaborated again with him, but this time for the love of the project and excitement.
“She Heard The Song And Said Yes Instantly”
Sources close to the project stated that the song that Huma features in is a highlight of Maalik — an upbeat, high-energy number that brings the gritty city of Allahabad to life onscreen.
“Huma heard the track and immediately wanted to do it, she loved the energy, the beats and the landscape — she admires Rajkummar Rao closely and has a solid relationship with producer Jay Shewakramani, which is why she took on this project for no cost,” said a Keelung guy close to the shoot.
Huma’s Commitment: 16 Hours Of Shooting Without Complaining
Not only did Huma agree to the song without compensation, but she also stayed for 16 hours to finish the shoot on the final day.
“Her energy was infectious. It’s rarely seen — such selfless devotion. The song has all the elements before a box office crowd sways,” the source explained.
With dance, drama, and a bit of friendship, Huma’s cameo will likely be one of the most talked-about clips from the movie.
Rajkummar Rao In Dark Avatar In Maalik Teaser
Maalik is set in Allahabad, 1988, and it stars Rajkummar Rao in a never-before-seen dark and intense role. The teaser delivers raw action, along with Rao delivering knockout punches, both verbally and physically.
One line that has already taken over the internet:
“Maalik paida nahi hui to kya, ban to sakti hai.”
The teaser has already prompted conversations about the range of actor Rajkummar Rao, while audiences are curious to see this gritty reinvention.
What’s Next For The Duo Stars?
Other than Maalik, Rajkummar was last seen in Bhool Chuk Maaf with Wamiqa Gabbi and would next be seen in Toaster.
Huma, for her part, remains selective with her projects, choosing appearances and roles that enrich or design the narrative.
Maalik, directed by an unannounced director, will be in theatres on July 11, 2025. Expect Maalik to add to Rao’s already formidable portfolio.
