“I Wanted To Be Great In My First Film But I Was Not Okay”: Ibrahim Ali Khan Opens Up On Nadaaniyan, Reveals Priyanka Chopra’s Comforting Message

Ibrahim Ali Khan, one of the newest star kids to enter Bollywood, is not beating around the bush when it comes to his debut film Nadaaniyaan. Although the romantic drama, which features Khushi Kapoor, received mixed reviews, along with some heat from social media, Ibrahim’s self-awareness and authenticity are capturing people’s hearts post-release. In a recent conversation, the young actor spoke candidly about his experience, and when asked how he felt about his performance, he replied that he was “not okay” and wished his first film had come through stronger.

“A lot of people told me to not stress, that it was just my first film. But that’s not okay with me, I wanted it to be great, with me being great in it.”

“Keep Grinding”: Priyanka Chopra’s Sweet Message Calms Ibrahim

Nevertheless, what really grounded Ibrahim was when Priyanka Chopra, who had seen Nadaaniyaan, reached out to him with some sincere encouragement.

“She said, hold your head high, just keep grinding, and grow thick skin. For someone like her, who has accomplished so much, that really comforted me,” Ibrahim said.

The message from the global icon not only boosted his spirits, but it also gave comfort that a newcomer, under intense scrutiny, was validated.

Saif Ali Khan’s Tough Love: “It’s Not 2000 Anymore”

On the home front, Saif Ali Khan imparted a bit of grounded wisdom to Ibrahim, reminding him that this is not the same industry anymore and said:

“You’re not walking into 2000 when you could walk around in a film and it would hit. You should prepare and learn fast, and you can never compromise on the script and filmmaker.”

Again, Ibrahim received this practical and no-nonsense wisdom from his father, which brought him back down to earth and reminded him that he was focused on sustainable options rather than short fame.

From Disbelief To Self-Discovery

Now at the age of 24, Ibrahim has completed three films and is learning from every experience, including the backlash. He was also upfront about reading back reviews, both positive, negative, and ugly.

“I’ve seen the mixed reviews. They fry your brain a bit. But I’m happy some people saw what I brought to the table,” he added in another interview.

Nadaaniyan: A Modest Debut, Not A Grand Launchpad

Nadaaniyaan was directed by Shauna Gautam, produced by Karan Johar‘s Dharmaticent, and came out in March 2025 on Netflix.

With a star cast that consisted of Suniel Shetty, Mahima Chaudhary, Jugal Hansraj, and Dia Mirza, the movie was sold as a light-hearted, breezy rom-com, not a large-scale debut-launch vehicle.

“People came in expecting a launch pad, but it was meant to be a sweet film. Nevertheless, I still wanted it to make an impact,” Ibrahim concluded.

BoxOfficeWorldwide Verdict

For a Gen-Z debutant in a post-COVID, hyper-judgemental digital world, Ibrahim Ali Khan being so real is his biggest strength. Whether it is accepting lacklustre work, swallowing constructive criticism, or soaking up tips from Priyanka Chopra and Saif Ali Khan – this young actor should have fallen on frame one, but he is already winning in real-time character development.
