In a massive and exciting development, the global streaming giant Netflix has joined hands with India’s Ministry of Tourism in a first-ever collaboration. The main goal of this partnership is to showcase India’s beautiful landscapes and rich culture to the entire world through Netflix’s original shows and films. This means audiences globally will get to see more of our country’s breathtaking locations right on their screens.
This initiative is designed to blend storytelling with tourism, turning the stunning backdrops you see in a series into real-world travel inspiration. It’s a huge step towards promoting the government’s “Incredible India” campaign on a global stage.
A Shared Vision To Promote ‘Incredible India’
Both Netflix and the Ministry of Tourism are excited about this new venture. Ms. V. Vidyavathi, the Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, stated, “This collaboration with Netflix reflects our shared commitment to showcasing India’s cultural richness and diversity.”
Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, added that this partnership celebrates the “very soul of India.” She hopes that this will create more opportunities for local talent and communities, while sharing the magic of India with people everywhere.
Showcasing India’s Beauty, One Show At A Time
This isn’t entirely new for Netflix, which has already given us beautiful glimpses of India in its content. From the serene Nilgiri forests in the Oscar-winning documentary The Elephant Whisperers to the shores of the Andaman Islands in Kaala Paani, and the vibrant fields of Punjab in Amar Singh Chamkila, the platform has always used real locations to enrich its stories.
This idea, often called “screen tourism,” has been a huge success globally. Shows like Emily in Paris and the K-drama When Life Gives You Tangerines led to a massive increase in tourism to France and Korea, respectively. Now, this successful model will be officially applied to India.
About The Netflix-Ministry Of Tourism Partnership
This is a first-of-its-kind collaboration where the global streaming platform Netflix and the Indian Ministry of Tourism will work together. The initiative aims to integrate and promote Indian travel destinations into Netflix’s original content to boost global tourism and showcase the country’s cultural heritage.
