S Shankar Clarifies His Decision To Replace AR Rahman As Music Composer In Indian 2
In a recent media interaction, S. Shankar shared the reasoning behind this pivotal change, shedding light on the decision-making process that led to choosing Anirudh over Rahman. Shankar explained, “When we started work on Indian 2, AR Rahman was already working on the BGM of 2.0 and I needed the songs soon.”
The director elaborated, expressing concern about overburdening Rahman and noting his admiration for Anirudh’s music. “I didn’t want to overburden him with Indian 2 and I also liked Anirudh’s music. His music was really popular and I thought why not sign him on,” Shankar added.
While the debate on Rahman’s potential impact on Indian 2 remains ongoing, Anirudh’s contributions have garnered widespread acclaim since the unveiling of his compositions, including songs and the beloved trailer.
Anirudh Ravichander On Replacing AR Rahman
During the grand music launch event in Chennai, Anirudh playfully addressed his role in succeeding Rahman, referencing a classic Rajinikanth dialogue from Shankar’s Sivaji: The Boss, saying, “After six, comes seven… but who comes after Rahman sir?”
Anirudh further acknowledged the weight of expectations, stating, “I understand the high expectations, especially given the sequel’s release 28 years after the original. Rahman sir’s music has always been inspiring to me.”
Apart from Kamal Haasan, Indian 2 features Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, and SJ Suryah in pivotal roles. The film is set to hit theatres on July 12, 2024, promising audiences a thrilling cinematic experience that blends Shankar’s visionary direction with Anirudh’s musical prowess.
