Could the breakout star of Laapataa Ladies be heading to the world of serpents and comedy? Pratibha Ranta, who made a spectacular debut in 2024, is reportedly the frontrunner to play the female lead opposite Kartik Aaryan in the upcoming creature comedy Naagzilla: Naag Lok Ka Pehla Kaand. The film, directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, went on floors this week, and the makers are reportedly finalizing the female lead alongside the ongoing shoot.
According to sources close to the project, Sanya Malhotra was initially the first choice for the role. Everyone on the team had reportedly assumed that she would be signed long ago. However, recent developments suggest that the team has widened their search and is now seriously considering Pratibha for the part. The shift in casting discussions has created buzz in the industry about who will ultimately land the coveted role.
Why Pratibha Ranta Caught The Makers’ Attention
Naagzilla, which is said to be the first installment in a serpent trilogy, is being produced by Dharma Productions and Mahaveer Jain Films. Pratibha reportedly caught the attention of the makers after recently wrapping up a directorial venture by Anubhuti Kashyap that is produced under Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions banner. Her performance in that project has apparently impressed the production house enough to consider her for their next big comedy entertainer as well.
Insiders reveal that the makers feel Pratibha brings a fresh energy to the screen and is not over-exposed yet, which makes her an ideal choice for a franchise that aims to establish new characters. Director Mrighdeep and the production team are reportedly keen to have her on board for this reason.
The Only Possible Challenge
While everything seems to be falling into place, there is reportedly one potential hitch that could affect the casting. Pratibha has a movie lined up with Maddock Films, which is expected to roll in early 2026. Sources suggest that if there are no date clashes between the two projects, she will headline Naagzilla opposite Kartik Aaryan. The production teams are reportedly working out the schedules to ensure smooth coordination if the casting goes through.
