Nani’s upcoming movie Dasara is set to release in multiple languages across the country, marking his first pan-Indian film. While pan-Indian movies have gained momentum since Baahubali: The Beginning, the trend of remakes is losing its popularity. Nani’s Jersey and Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo were remade in Hindi, but failed to gain the same attention as their original versions.
When asked about the lack of interest in remakes, Nani pointed out that the audience’s excitement for a brand-new film decreases when they already know the story. In the past, remakes were more successful as there was no communication about the original film’s performance and content wasn’t readily available on the internet.
“I think it has more to do with a lot of people who have watched the original and also generally, the interest. It has been out there already and it’s not something we are exploring on day 1. People are excited to be the first one to know if it’s a good film and the remake takes it away. Now, in today’s time when the film is already available on OTT, available on YouTube, when you know you are not going to break the news to the world, then I think the general excitement is a little lower,” Galatta plus quoted him as saying.
Nani also mentioned that earlier, films were not released pan-India and their remake rights were sold to different markets. However, with the success of films like Baahubali, KGF, Pushpa, and others, it has been proven that language barriers don’t matter anymore.
Dasara, which is set to release on March 31, will be Nani’s first attempt at a pan-Indian film. Fans are eagerly waiting to see how the film performs in different languages and if it can break the trend of unsuccessful remakes.
