Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest blockbuster Jailer has crossed the 550 crore mark worldwide in just 12 days of its release, becoming the second fastest Tamil film to achieve this feat after his own sci-fi thriller 2.0. The film, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike for its action-packed story, Rajinikanth’s charismatic performance, and Anirudh Ravichander’s chartbuster music.
Jailer’s phenomenal performance in India and overseas
According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Jailer has grossed over 390 crores in India and over 160 crores in overseas markets, making it the third highest-grossing Kollywood film of all time, behind 2.0 and Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1. The film has also become the first Tamil film to cross the 60 crore mark in Karnataka and the 75 crore mark in Telugu states.
Jailer has also created history in the international markets, becoming the first Tamil film to cross the $20 million mark in the overseas box office. The film has performed exceptionally well in countries like the USA, UAE, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Australia, and New Zealand. Jailer’s plot and star cast
Jailer tells the story of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, a retired police officer who is forced to come out of his peaceful life when a gang of criminals led by Jackie Shroff threatens his family and friends. Rajinikanth plays the dual role of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian and his son Shakthi Pandian, who is an aspiring filmmaker. The film also features Mohanlal in a special appearance as Tiger’s mentor and friend, Tamannaah Bhatia as Shakthi’s love interest, Ramya Krishnan as Tiger’s wife, Yogi Babu as Shakthi’s friend, Vasanth Ravi as Tiger’s brother-in-law, and Shivarajkumar as a police officer.
