James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water Breaches $2 Billion-Mark At The Worldwide Box-office. Details Inside!

As per the studio estimates Sunday, it had collected $19.7 million in U.S. and Canadian theaters over the weekend.

Avatar was first released in 2009 directed by James Cameron. Its sequel released in India on December 16th, 2022 starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang from the first film, and new faces like Kate Winslet and Michelle Yeoh. The first part had a lifetime collection worth $2.8 billion. The entire collection through its re-release is $58 million.

The latest Hollywood news is that it has crossed the $2 billion mark at the worldwide box-office, making it sixth all-time and ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home. As per the studio estimates Sunday, it had collected $19.7 million in U.S. and Canadian theaters over the weekend.

It is up to $598 million domestically, with a powerful global sales ($56.3 million for the weekend) pushing the Avatar sequel to $2.024 billion globally. Spider-Man: No Way Home also ranked the top at the box office for six weekends last year; however, it did so during a span of seven weeks.

The Way of Water has now achieved a target that Cameron himself placed for the very costly sequel. Before the release, Cameron had said becoming “the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history” was “your break even.” Moreover, Cameron has three of the top four films of all time, with the first Avatar film at No 1 with $2.9bn, and Titanic at No 3 with $2.2bn. Only Avengers: Endgame, at No 2 with $2.8bn, disturbs the sequence.
