Thalapathy Vijay starrer Jana Nayagan is registering sensational pre-sales both domestically and overseas. With three days left for its release, the film has already clocked over Rs 50 crore in advance sales worldwide. This swan song is set to create box office history.
Vijay starrers are known to open massively, and with this film marking his final appearance before he steps into politics full time, the buzz has reached unprecedented levels. Fans across the globe are rushing to book their tickets for what promises to be a historic theatrical event.
Massive Overseas Pre-Sales Numbers
The film has recorded over USD 4 million in pre-sales for the weekend from overseas markets. A bulk of this has come from the opening day alone, which stands at a staggering USD 3.30 million approximately. These numbers are putting Jana Nayagan in a league of its own.
In core Tamil markets such as Malaysia and Europe, the film is recording one of the best advances ever for not just Tamil but Indian films overall. In the United States, where the Telugu diaspora is the main driver, the film is outselling Prabhas starrer The Raja Saab which is premiering on the same day.
Malaysia Creates History With Unprecedented Sales
The film went on sale in Malaysia and recorded an unprecedented 50,000 sales in the very first hour. By the end of the day, it was sitting at nearly 100,000 tickets for the first day and crossed that mark the next morning. For perspective, only two films have ever managed to sell over 100,000 tickets for their first day in advance.
Jana Nayagan achieved this milestone on its very first day with three days still to go. The final number could very well cross 200,000 or more depending on capacity. Sales in Singapore and Sri Lanka are yet to open, and similar scenes are expected when they do.
Strong Domestic Advance Bookings
Domestically, the film has around Rs 15 crore in sales with most of it for the opening day. Karnataka is leading in the sales numbers. In the home state Tamil Nadu, the full sales plan is not open yet, but whatever has opened is selling hot.
Normally the film would have targeted to break all existing opening records in Tamil Nadu. However, it is not a solo release which will keep it short of some milestones. Regardless, the opening will be gigantic and then it has the highly lucrative Pongal holiday period on weekdays.
